APTEC Representative Qualifies as a Fogra Digital Print Partner,
also the FIRST trainer for a Digital Print Professional outside Fogra
Digital printing has developed rapidly, and its quality has also attracted attention. The digital printing standard, which has been discussed for many years by the Technical Committee ISO/TC 130 under the international organization ISO, was finally released at the end of 2020, named ISO/TS 15311-1 and ISO/TS 15311-2. The documents define the digital printing quality parameters, measurement methods and evaluation report requirements, and the subsequent parts of ISO/TS 15311 will also include compliance requirements. Although this document focuses on digital printing, these assessment methods are also suitable for other printing methods.
Our Senior Technical Specialist, Mr. Lewis Lam, has obtained the qualification of Fogra PSO partner many years ago. He has obtained the qualification of Fogra Digital Print Partner recently too. He is also a trainer. He is currently the ONLY one in China and the FIRST Fogra Trainer for PSO Professionals and Digital Print Professionals. Lewis is one of the representatives of ISO/TC 130 experts in China, and has extensive experience in color and quality control of printing.
What is PSD certification?
PSD is a printing certification specially designed for digital printing, developed by Fogra Europe. PSD ensures controllable digital printing production through clearly defined standard work processes and objective testing methods, representing an internal quality management, enabling companies to meet customer requirements in color mapping to create a competitive advantage. The company successfully passed PSD, which means that the company has reached a certain level in digital printing quality management. The PSD lasts for two years and is suitable for digital printing service providers.
Not only the quality of digital printing, but also the workflow will be audited, for the following three areas:
1. Output process control: quality management on the basis of the Fogra MediaWedge V3, stability assessment, achievement of a reference
2. Colour fidelity: colour accuracy and run consistency based on Fogra MediaWedge V3 (according to ISO/TS 15311-2 or ISO/TS 15311-3)
3. Workflow: norm light conditions, creation and output of PDF/X data, system knowledge with the Altona Test Suite, handling of profiles
To successfully achieve PSD certification, the applicant company must have the following equipment or software:
• hand held measurement device and means for drift detection
• software for colour transformation of PDF files and data preflighting with PDF/X-Ready check profiles
• valid license of the Fogra MediaWedge CMYK
• norm light according to ISO 3664
ProcessStandard Digital (PSD), developed by Fogra, is a standardized process for describing digital print products. Using PSD certified service provider can demonstrate high quality and knowledge of the output process. Successful implementation of PSD can bring benefits such as cost reduction, quality improvement, and productivity enhancement for printers. PSD certification is a collection of Validation Print Standard (ISO 12647-8), Contract Proof Standards (ISO 12647-7) and Digital Print Standards (ISO 15311) for the evaluation of production sheets. This aims at checking that the workflow of the whole company is based on the expected printing requirement.

PSD PrintCheck
PSD PrintCheck is a simplified version of PSD. It mainly evaluates whether the digital print sheets can meet the standard to demonstrate the digital printing capability of the print service provider. It is divided into small digital printing (PrintCheck Digital) and large format digital printing (PrintCheck LFP). Audit areas include color accuracy, print production stability (based on ISO/TS15311-2 and Fogra specification 15311-3), as well as visual inspection for print sheet uniformity and sharpness. PSD PrintCheck certification is valid for one year.
PrintCheck Digital
Mainly for small digital printing press. Print out the PrintCheck test forms and add the Fogra MediaWedge CMYK. Print 500 sheets and draw 20 print samples at random intervals, and print one copy as an OK print for measurement by Fogra.
PrintCheck LFP
Mainly for large-format digital printing press. Add the Fogra MediaWedge CMYK to the test form.
Please print 9, 18 or 27 test forms, depending on the print width, measured by Fogra.
